Louis Rech

Louis Rech (actually: Jean-Louis Rech * December 7, 1926 to Faller at Sovramonte ; † January 6, 2012 ) was a Luxembourg trade unionist and socialist politician ( LSAP ) of Italian descent. He became a Luxembourg citizen in 1958.

Life

Rech, born in Faller near Sovramonte in 1926, moved with his parents to Luxembourg at the age of one, where his father, like many other immigrants at the time, worked in the steel industry, at Arbed . He grew up with five other siblings in the Italy district .

Rech was president of the local OGBL section and vice president at the national level. In addition to his work in the socialist party, from 1973 he was a member of the council of lay judges for around twenty years and from 1985 to 1993 mayor of Dudelange as the successor to Nicolas Birtz . His own successor in the mayor's office was Mars Di Bartolomeo .

Rech is the grandfather of the Luxembourg musician John Rech . His son Romy Rech is now a city council member.
