Louis Ernest Reguin (born June 29, 1872 in La Chaux-de-Fonds , † December 22, 1948 ibid) was a Swiss draftsman, enamel painter , engraver and miniaturist .

Life

From 1889 to 1895 he trained as an engraver and enamel painter at the Ecole des arts appliqués à l'industrie in La Chaux-de-Fonds. He was friends with Charles L'Eplattenier , Leon Perrin and André Evard , who became his son-in-law in 1928.

After marrying the watchmaker Milca Ducommun, Reguin worked as a freelance artist in his own studio in La Chaux-de-Fonds. His craftsmanship earned him orders from solvent customers. Reguin created enamel miniatures for the Russian Tsar Nicholas II and a prince from the house of the Ethiopian Negus . The enamel miniatures by Louis Reguin show high technical as well as artistic skill. In just a few square centimeters , Louis Reguin succeeded in conveying the physical and psychological peculiarities of personalities , the monumentality of mountainous landscapes , the poetry of genre pictures and the delicacy of flowers .

Most of his graphic works were created while hiking. In nature, Louis Reguin found his personal form of expression in free drawing. The resulting works show nature and landscape still largely untouched by humans.
