Louis le Brocquy

Louis le Brocquy (born November 10, 1916 in Dublin , † April 25, 2012 there ) was an Irish painter .

Short biography

Le Brocquy was best known for the expressive portrait heads of famous writers and artists such as James Joyce , Samuel Beckett , William Butler Yeats , Seamus Heaney and Francis Bacon . In 1956 he represented Ireland at the Biennale in Venice and won the Premio Acquisto International . His painting technique was characterized by the application of several layers, whereby the upper layers do not cover the lower ones, but allow them to shine through transparently. Le Brocquy was a Saoi near Aosdána .
