Louis van Lint (born December 25, 1909 in Sint-Joost-ten-Node ( Brussels ), Belgium , † December 27, 1986 in Brussels) was a Belgian painter .

Louis van Lint was an important representative of modern art and abstract painting in Belgium after the Second World War with international recognition.

He studied at the Académies des Beaux-arts de Bruxelles in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode (Brussels).

van Lint was one of the founders of the artist group “ Le Route Libre ” in 1939, together with Anne Bonnet and Gaston Bertrand , and in 1941 of the group “ Apport ”. In the same year he had his first solo exhibition in the “ Paleis voor Schone Kunsten ” in Brussels. In 1945 Louis van Lint co-founded the association “ La Jeune Peinture Belge ” (or: “ Jonge Belgische Schilderkunst ”), together with the artists Jan Cox , Gaston Bertrand, Anne Bonnet, Marc Mendelson , James Ensor and others.

The early work of Louis van Lint is still characterized by an expressionist style . He later developed his painting from a “realistic expressionism” (during the Second World War ) to complete abstraction (under the influence of Jean Bazaine ) from 1948 onwards.

From 1949 van Lint was in contact with artists from the COBRA group and exhibited with them in 1951 in Liège . In 1948 he represented Belgium at the Venice Biennale , and in 1959 he took part in documenta II in Kassel .
