Louis von Kannengießer

Louis von Kannengießer (born April 17, 1852 in Essen , † October 30, 1919 in Munich ) was a German merchant and ship owner .

Live and act

Louis (since 1902: von; since 1918: Ludwig von) Kannengießer grew up as the son of a coal merchant in Essen. After he had learned the trade, he and his brother Karl founded a coal business in Mülheim an der Ruhr in 1876 , which mainly exported to southern Germany. After his brother left the joint company (1895), the United Sellerbeck colliery (1889) and the Roland colliery (1901), Louis Kannengießer brought his company into Harpener Bergbau AG in 1904 . At that time, his company had 11 wheel and screw steamers, eight swap tug boats, 68 barges and two mines. As general director with an office in Mülheim an der Ruhr, he headed the shipping department of Harpener Bergbau AG for ten years until the company's headquarters were relocated to Ruhrort (1914). He was a member of the Düsseldorf Freemason Lodge To the Three Allies .

Louis Kannengießer was married to Anna Krabb (1855-1919). The marriage had four children: Anna (* 1880), Karl Louis Wilhelm (* 1883), Elsa Auguste Amalia (* 1885) and Kurt (* 1891)
