Louisa Sophia Goldsmid
Louisa Sophia Goldsmid (born September 2, 1819 , † December 7, 1908 in London ) was a British feminist .
Life
Louisa Sophia Goldsmid was the daughter of Moses Asher Goldsmid and belonged to one of the most influential Jewish families in Great Britain . She used her assets and her social position to promote women's rights and, in particular, the academic education of women. In 1866 she signed the petition on women's suffrage and was a member of the provisional petition committee as chamberlain . In 1867, after tensions with Helen Taylor, she temporarily withdrew from the suffragette movement in order to concentrate only on the campaign for the education of women. She returned to the movement after 1870, became vice president of the National Society for Women's Suffrage in 1874, and remained active in various associations until her death.
family
Louisa Sophia Goldsmid married her cousin Sir Francis Henry Goldsmid in 1839 , but the marriage remained childless. After her husband's death, she lived with the German concert pianist and composer Agnes Zimmermann (1847–1925).
Her husband, Francis Henry Goldsmid, was the eldest son of Isaac Lyon Goldsmid (1778-1859), the senior partner of the London precious metals broker " Mocatta & Goldsmid ", and his cousin Isabel Goldsmid (1788-1860).
His younger brother was the English politician Frederick David Goldsmid (1812–1866). This was liberal deputy of the British Parliament for the constituency Honiton and heir of his father's estate Somerhill House . His daughter Mary Ada Goldsmid (1836-1905) married in 1856 the co-owner of "Mocatta & Goldsmid" Frederick David Mocatta (1828-1905).
