Louiseville is a city ( ville ) and capital of the MRC Maskinongé in the Canadian province of Québec .

It is located about halfway between Montréal and the provincial capital Québec on the north bank of Lac Saint-Pierre , a river widening of the Saint Lawrence River , about 35 km west of the city of Trois-Rivières . The Rivière du Loup flows through the city shortly before its confluence with Lac Saint-Pierre.

Naming

The city was named in honor of Princess Louise , daughter of the British Queen Victoria .

history

In 1665 the place Rivière du Loup was founded, which was called Rivière-Manereuil for a few years . In 1879 Rivière du Loup was renamed Louiseville. On January 31, 1888, Louiseville merged with Saint-Antoine-de-la-Rivière-du-Loup and received city status.
