This Roman Catholic Lourdes Chapel is in the district Mühlebach the town of Dornbirn in Dornbirn in Vorarlberg . It is dedicated to Our Lady in Lourdes and belongs to the parish church of St. Leopold in Hatlerdorf and thus to the dean's office in Dornbirn in the diocese of Feldkirch . The feast day of Our Lady in Lourdes is February 11th.

The structure ( 460  m above sea level ) was built in 1966 and is about 2 km as the crow flies from the city center of Dornbirn.

history

In 1837 a dedicated to St. The chapel dedicated to Joseph was built. The chapel had a hexagonal tower. It was oriented almost in the same way as today's chapel. In 1889 a Lourdes grotto was added.

In 1966/67 the new chapel was built according to plans by Sigi Salzmann.

Church building

The chapel is in the center of the village of Mühlebach. It is a building with an approximately rectangular basic shape and east-west orientation. To the east (altar) the outer walls are rounded. The simple doors and the triangular, pointed-gable bell ridge on the gable roof are to the west. The bell ridge protrudes from the facade and covers part of the portal. The gable roof and the bell ridge are covered with Eternit roof shingles.

The prayer room and the chancel are not separated from each other and the wooden ceiling follows the line of the gable roof inside. In the facade there are stained glass windows with biblical scenes to the south and north.

On the right (to the south) there is a small sacristy.

Furnishing

The pews are made of fir wood and kept simple. The stations of the cross on the northern inner wall are ornate small paintings with optical borders. The chapel has an imposing high altar in the form of a stylized grotto with the image of Our Lady in Lourdes , who is adored with a rosary on the left by a young girl (see Bernadette Soubirous ).

A simple folk altar stands in front of the high altar.

The organ in the Lourdes Chapel was built and installed in 1973 by Edmund Hohn .

In the bell ridge there are two bells that were cast by the Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck. These are tuned to f "and a".
