Mühlebach is a district in the southern municipality of the Austrian city ​​of Dornbirn , in the state of Vorarlberg . Mühlebach is part of the oldest Dornbirn settlement area.

Origin of name

Mühlebach is a field and place name that can be found in Vorarlberg next to Dornbirn z. B. also found in Altach , Bezau , Bludenz , Bürserberg , Feldkirch , Hard , Hörbranz , Innerbraz , Lustenau , Mellau , Mittelberg , Schnepfau and Sulzberg . Mühlebach refers to a stream that was or is used to drive a mill mechanically. Such existed in Mühlebach until the middle of the 20th century.

history

The Mühlebach was owned by the Lords of Sigberg and was sold by Johann von Sigberg on Gallustag 1318 to Ulrich I von Hohenems for 250 silver marks , whereby the name "Mühlebach" (Mülibach) was first mentioned in a document (see also: History of Dornbirn ) . A castle of the "Lords of Sigberg" located here has repeatedly been suspected, but has not yet been found. The “ Bürgle ” ( 582  m above sea level ), a hill between the Karren and the Dornbirner Ache, belongs to the Mühlebach . Around 1600 there were around 30 houses in Mühlebach, 17 families were serfs . On March 25, 1848, there was a fire in which eight courtyards were destroyed.

Geography, topography and geology

Mühlebach is part of the Hatlerdorf district in the south of the Dornbirn settlement area at around 460  m above sea level. A. and is about 2 km as the crow flies from the city center of Dornbirn. It is slightly elevated at the foot of the cart .

From Feldkirch down via Hohenems Oberklien - Unterklien - Wallenmahd - Haslach - Mühlebach a 35 km long pilgrim path (path of humanity) leads to Dornbirn to the parish church of St. Martin .

Transport and economy

The old country road from Hohenems to Haselstauden (via Haslach , Mühlebach, Achmühle, Oberdorf , Steinebach and Kehlen - Römerstraße) has led via Mühlebach since ancient times. This connection was partially prone to falling rocks (see Breitenberg ).

For centuries, Mühlebach was shaped by agriculture and the associated ancillary trades as well as small craft businesses. Viticulture was carried out for regional sales in Mühlebach and at Unterbürgle.

Waters

The stream that originally gave the district Mühlebach its name is no longer so named today. The stream is now called Tobelbach and Sägebach in the upper area and bears the official name Küferbach and flows into the Fallbach at 1.85 kilometers of water . The stream was originally used to mechanically drive saws and mills .

Other small bodies of water such as the Haslachbach, Hohlkenerbach or Lehmgraben are only of regional importance.
