Louwrens Langevoort (* 1957 in Groningen , Netherlands ) is a Dutch music manager and artistic director of the Cologne Philharmonic .

Live and act

After completing his law degree in 1979, Louwrens Langevoort initially worked as a journalist for two years. His work as a cultural manager began in 1981 in public relations and later as head of the artistic management office at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels with Gerard Mortier . After working for one year as A&R manager in the classical department of Philips , he took over the management of the artistic office of the Salzburg Festival in 1989 . In 1991 he became Artistic Director at the Leipzig Opera House , and in 1993 Artistic Director of Operations at the Cologne Opera . In 1994 he became artistic director and in 1995 also managing director of the Dutch touring theater Nationale Reisopera in Enschede , which he rebuilt with government subsidies of 5.6 million euros, six to eight productions and around 90 performances per season. At the beginning of the 2000/2001 season, Louwrens Langevoort returned to Germany as director of the Hamburg State Opera . In particular, he initiated a series of baroque operas and devoted himself to promoting young talent with the series Opera piccola for children , which he founded , the international opera studio and the composer's workshop , which he also founded in 2001 . In 2004 and 2005 Louwrens Langevoort was also an advisor to the German State Opera Berlin . Since August 1, 2005, he has been Albin Hänseroth's successor as director of the Cologne Philharmonic and managing director of KölnMusik GmbH. Until the end of 2010 he was the overall director of the festival of the MusikTriennale Köln and since 2011 director of the successor festival for modern music ACHT BRÜCKEN - Musik für Köln , which he founded at the beginning of May . In 2018, his contract was extended for the third time until the end of the 2025 season. In 2019/20 he founded "Felix", a festival of historical performance practice.

Langevoort is a member of the board of the Liz Mohn Culture and Music Foundation for the promotion of young opera singers, music education and the interaction of children and young people with different cultural backgrounds. He is a board member (treasurer) at ON - Neue Musik Köln e. V. and member of the Artistic Advisory Board of the Conductors ' Forum of the German Music Council . In June 2015 he was awarded the 6th Cologne Culture Prize of the Cologne Culture Council as Cultural Manager of the Year 2014 .
