Life

Until his death, Luis Andrés Edo was a staunch supporter of anarcho-syndicalism. During his work at the age of 16 for the Spanish railways, he met trade unionists from the anarcho-syndicalist Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT), who at the time had to operate underground. When he fled to France in 1947, he was active for some time as secretary of the CNT; Edo also worked in the same position at the Iberian Federation of Libertarian Youth ( FIJL ). In the 1940s war years, which were characterized by famine, Edo and some of his colleagues took food from a broken- open Renfe railroad freight car and distributed it.

As an evening schoolboy, Edo took part in a strike in Barcelona in 1945. In 1947 he emigrated to Paris because he did not want to be drafted into the military of the Franco regime. More than 300 anarchists were arrested in Spain that year and many were shot. Edo decided to return to Spain in 1949. Because he entered illegally, he was arrested and spent a year in prison.

After his release, he traveled to France, but kept going back to Spain. In 1966, the Primero de Mayo group was accused of plotting to kidnap US Rear Admiral Gillette . During the possible preparations, Edo and several members of the Libertarian Youth Group (PdM) were arrested. Because possession of arms and subversive activities, he was sentenced to nine years in prison and released early 1972nd He was sentenced to a further six years in prison in 1974 for another illegal entry into Spain. After Franco's death in 1976, a general amnesty enabled him to be released from prison early. Edo then served on the CNT's regional committee for several years. Edo's life was an ongoing struggle for a free society, as an activist , trade unionist and resistance fighter, punctuated by long sentences.

Edo worked on various books and magazines and published an autobiography.
