Luís Mena Solórzano

Luís Mena Solórzano was President of Nicaragua from August 27 to 30, 1910 and August 29 to September 23, 1912 .

Life

José Dolores Estrada Morales resigned in favor of Luís Mena Solórzano. On May 8, 1911, the Jefe del Ejército , General Luis Mena Solórzano, was arrested by order of the government of Juan José Estrada , on May 9, 1911 Juan José Estrada resigns. The Pacto Dawson stipulated that a meeting should be held for the election of the president. Adolfo Díaz Recinos received 91.21% of the vote in direct elections. However, the Asamblea Nacional elected Luis Mena Solórzano on July 29, 1912 as president. To get their accountant Adolfo Díaz back into office, William Howard Taft landed 2,300 Marines in Corinto in August 1912 . It began the Guerra de Mena , in which Benjamin Zeledón , on the side of Mena, participated and was killed on October 4, 1912. Luís Mena was sick and tied to his bed in Granada . William Henry Hudson Southerland accepted the surrender of Mena and that of his 700 soldiers at midnight on September 24, 1912. General Mena and his son were exiled to Panama .

1925 Luís Mena Solórzano was under the government of President José Carlos Solórzano Gutiérrez ( Partido Conservador Republicano ) and Vice President Juan Bautista Sacasa of the Partido Liberal , Consul General of Nicaragua in New Orleans . The Partido Liberal pushed through this post for him , although Paulino Moreira was originally intended for this post by the government. After the El Lomazo , the coup by Emiliano Chamorro Vargas against José Carlos Solórzano Gutiérrez, Mena founded a Comité Constitucionalista in New Orleans in October 1925 , with which he participated on the part of the Partido Liberal in the Guerra Constitucionalista and circumvented the US arms embargo against Nicaragua. On December 24, 1926, Luís Mena Solórzano acted as interpreter for a delegation from the government of the Partido Liberal , which I complained about the establishment of the neutral zone in Bluefields on the USS Cleveland .

From 1940 Mena, the right hand man of Anastasio Somoza García , was the ambassador to Costa Rica . In 1940 he negotiated a contract for the canalization of the Río San Juan. In 1941 Mena took part in Anastasio Somoza García's business in the foreign exchange, arms and cattle trade in Costa Rica. In 1943 he was consul of Nicaragua in New York.

On January 20, 1968 Anastasio Somoza Debayle appointed him ambassador of Nicaragua to António de Oliveira Salazar .
