Luanda Sul

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Luanda Sul or German Luanda Süd describes a new urbanization with a residential area in the south of the Angolan capital Luanda . It is part of the Belas municipality and consists of the residential areas Talatona , Novos Bairros and Morar . It is mainly a neighborhood for the Angolan nouveau riche class . The Brazilian construction company Odebrecht Angola in partnership with Angolans was one of the main people responsible for the creation of this new urban space in the province of Luanda . The Talatona district only became possible after the completion of a connection between the center and the south with two streets, Avenida 21 Janeiro and Avenida da Samba . The Avenida da Samba became the flagship of the Odebrecht group in Angola.

New district in Luanda, 2009

Living space for the new rich

The new district has literally been pounded out of the ground since the official start of construction in 2001. On an area of around 800 hectares, around 15 kilometers southwest of the city center, the huge housing project called Nova Vida (German: New Life ) was and is still being built . It is the largest district and housing program in Angola since the end of the Civil War in 2002. An apartment or a house in the area here costs about 1.5 million US dollars , in some cases over $ 2 million, and there are even some which are said to cost more than $ 5 million. The area is considered to be the best example of the emergence of a very rich and, despite the enormous costs, carefree living in the capital Luanda, which, despite all its shortcomings, has become the most expensive city in the world for foreigners. To rent an apartment of 100 to 130 square meters here, prices of $ 5,000 to $ 10,000 per month have to be paid easily.

Apartments for 20,000 people

Marketed by the government on favorable loan terms, around 20,000 people have found upscale housing here. The houses and apartments are primarily used as a residence for privileged government officials and officials. The government has given massive support to the construction and sale of the houses. A total of 2,210 new houses were built. Most of the construction work was carried out by Chinese construction companies and craftsmen, as well as Portuguese and Brazilian construction companies, literally on the "green field".

In addition to the comfortable houses and apartments, there are also schools, a health center of the Angolan Red Cross and a police station. The center of the modern facility is clearly the Belas Shopping Center , which opened in March 2008 , with countless modern shops and four cinemas.

New hotel and convention centers

Another highlight of the current construction activity in Luanda is the Centro de Convenções de Talatona , CCTA for short (German: Talatona Congress Center ). It was completed in 2009. The adjacent Hotel Talatona Convention houses a total of 221 luxury rooms and suites.

The next major construction project is already being planned: the Belas Business Park I and II business center with offices and first-class properties for high demands.
