Lubaina Himid
Lubaina Himid (born 1954 in the Protectorate of Zanzibar ) is a British painter , installation artist and university lecturer .
Life
Himid moved to the UK with her mother as a toddler. She studied stage design at Wimbledon College of Art (BA 1976). At the Royal College of Art , she received an MA in 1984
Himid has been involved in the Black Art movement since the 1980s . She teaches at the University of Central Lancashire . In June 2010 she was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) and in 2018 CBE. In 2017 she received the Turner Prize .
