Lubeca is the medieval Latin name of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck . Lubeca is to be understood as the transfiguring allegory for the city of Lübeck from the 19th century and its importance (on a regional level) is identical to Germania for the German Empire , Helvetia for Switzerland , Britannia for Great Britain and Bavaria for Bavaria , the Brunonia for the city and country of Braunschweig or the Hammonia for Hamburg .

The allegorical city goddess Lubeca can be found, for example, on the highest decoration of the city, the commemorative coin Bene Merenti , designed by Adolph Menzel in 1835 , as the divine personification of the genius loci of Lübeck.
