Lubmin Heath
The Lubminer Heide near Lubmin is a wooded terminal moraine and hilly landscape in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
Location and elevations
The Lubminer Heide is located west of the community center of Lubmin on the Greifswalder Bodden . It is bounded in the northwest by the Lubmin marina , where a former cooling water channel of the now decommissioned nuclear power plant leads into the bay. This canal also represents the northern border of the heather. It leads in a U-shape to the Spandowerhagener Wiek , which forms the eastern border. There is the eponymous Krösliner municipality part Spandowerhagen . A nuclear power plant was built south of the canal in the 1970s, for which the Lubmin district of Freesendorf was abandoned and parts of the Lubmin Heath were cleared. North of the canal is the Struck peninsula . The Lubminer Heide extends southeast to the Krösliner municipality part Freest . To the south, there are agricultural areas and smaller settlements, including Nonnendorf and Latzow .
Vegetation and water
The vegetation is dominated by pine trees, which is partially supplemented by mixed forest. On a few open areas, dry and poor grass alternate.
In the south-west of the Lubminer Heide there is the highest elevation, the Heron Mountains , at 20 meters above sea level. In the southern area are two nameless bodies of water.
Sporting use
In the north-western area of the forest, the municipality of Lubmin has created a nature trail with a forest discovery trail. In addition, numerous Nordic walking routes cross this area.
