Life

Lubor Lacina grew up as the son of an engineer in a sheltered culture-affine environment. After graduating from high school, he studied at the Czech Technical University in Brno ; he was also enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . His training was interrupted by the Protectorate and the Second World War, during which time he worked as an employee for a construction company and for the architect Bohumil Čermák , a student of Otto Wagner .

After the war he studied further, a. a. with Bohuslav Fuchs . He passed his diploma thesis and the second state examination with distinction; afterwards he gained design and teaching experience for five years as the first assistant to the then rector Jiří Kroha . Without the knowledge of his professor, he developed and defended his dissertation and achieved the academic rank of Doctor of Science. However, he then gave up scientific activity in favor of independent work in his studio and as a member of the Association of Visual Artists. In addition to monuments and the reconstruction of historical buildings, his main fields of activity were interior fittings and furniture design. In some of these projects he was able to employ his younger sister Sylva as a sculptor.

After a series of serious illnesses and operations in the last third of his life, he settled back in the Masaryk district on Kraví hora, where he set up a private studio and ended his career. Most of his architectural creations, especially the interiors, have not been preserved.
