Lucien James "Luc" Longley (born January 19, 1969 in Melbourne , Australia ) is an Australian basketball coach and former player. He was the first Australian to play in the North American NBA .

Career

Longley began his career in Australia with the Perth Wildcats. In 1987 he went to the United States to play for the College of the University of New Mexico .

In the 1991 NBA Draft , Longley was selected seventh by the Minnesota Timberwolves . There he was under contract for three years before moving to the Chicago Bulls in 1994 . With the Bulls, he won the NBA championship three times (1996, 1997, 1998) alongside stars like Michael Jordan , Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman . In 1998 Longley moved to the Phoenix Suns for two years . At the end of his career, the New York Knicks signed him for one season.

In 2013 he became assistant coach of the Australian national team .
