Lucas Schmid

Lucas Markus Schmid (* 1956 in Madrid ) is a Swiss jazz musician ( bass trombone , tenor trombone , tuba , composition ) who has also emerged as the producer / manager of the WDR Big Band .

Life

Schmid, who grew up in Madrid, has as a teenager, the trombone autodidactically taught. He studied sound engineering and trombone at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Düsseldorf . In 1980 he also began studying jazz at the Cologne University of Music and Dance . In 1983 he returned to Germany after some time in Spain, where he worked as a freelance jazz musician. During this time he worked for the big bands of WDR, NDR and DRS Zurich, composed and founded his own record label.

In 1993 he became a trombonist member of the NDR Big Band , where he also realized productions on his own. He has been a member of the WDR Big Band since June 1998. In 2002 he followed Wolfgang Hirschmann as manager of the WDR Big Band. In this position he is responsible for the program of the WDR Big Band as well as for productions, employees and finances.

As a composer he wrote the Suite A Jazz Reformation , which he recorded with the NDR Big Band in 2008. This suite was also performed in 2012 by the hr big band under the direction of the composer, but also in 2017 with the Stuttgart large.ensemble . As an interpreter he can also be heard on albums by the Nighthawks and Michael Villmows Cologne Big Band .
