Luciano Bottaro (born November 16, 1931 in Rapallo ; † November 25, 2006 there ) was one of the most popular Italian cartoonists . He is best known for his work for Mondadori ; together with Romano Scarpa (1927–2005) and Giovan Battista Carpi (1927–1999) he is one of the “legends” of Italian Disney comics.

Luciano Bottaro made his first work in 1949 for Lo Scolaro magazine . He drew his first Disney comics in 1952, initially working mainly with copywriter Guido Martina . Bottaro was later active as an author himself, and Carlo Chendi also often implemented the maestro's ideas in scripts in long and fruitful teamwork. Bottaro's stories with a literary background, which appeared there in early editions of the Lustige Taschenbuch , are known in Germany, but Luciano Bottaro actually worked as a draftsman and author for over 50 years. His main activity lay in the 1950s to 1970s, since then he has been overtaken in terms of popularity by younger draftsmen such as Massimo De Vita or Giorgio Cavazzano . One of his best-known characters is the witch Hicksi, adapted from a Donald Duck short film, who in numerous stories primarily troubles Goofy , who was firmly established in Disney comics by Bottaro. Most of his stories took place in the Duck universe, but he also drew Mickey Mouse stories such as B. A City in Hypnosis (LTB 34), which deals with the subject of manipulation by mass media . In the 1960s he drew a few Fix and Foxi episodes for Rolf Kauka . In 1968 he founded the Bierreci studio with Chendi and Giorgio Rebuffi , which produced Disney, Kauka, Warner Bros. and other comics and existed until 1985. In addition to Bottaro's Disney comics, some of his own series are also known in Germany, e.g. B. King of Spades ( Re di Picche ) and especially the little pirate Pepito .
