Lucid9: Inciting Incident is a Mystery - visual novel from 2016, by the multinational production company Fallen Snow Studios develops and the US Sekai Project at Steam has been published. It is the first part of the multi-part visual novel.

17-year-old Yama Ishimoto is a student at the Isamu Imperial Boarding Academy in the fictional Japanese city ​​of Isamu. He tries to live his life as simply as possible and to stay out of all the social problems of high school. His life changes when he happens to meet the private detective Shigure Enomoto, who informs him about the recent series of murders at the academy.

Little by little he finds out dark secrets in the city and gets closer and closer to the serial killer. When he wakes up after a failure at the scene of the last murder, however, he himself ends up in the group of suspects.

Gameplay

The player takes on the role of the student Yama Ishimoto. Again and again, decisions have to be made that change the further course of history. There are multiple endings, including a good, a true, and several bads. The true end of Lucid9: Inciting Incident is the red thread for the continuation of the visual novel.

Characters

Yama Ishimoto ( 石 本 山 , Ishimoto Yama )

  • Yama Ishimoto is a 17 year old student at Isamu Imperial Boarding Academy where he is in the third grade. He is described as lazy and unmotivated, Ishimoto has a penchant for cynicism and sarcasm , which he likes to use with his classmates. Due to his apparently unmotivated demeanor, he is referred to Jirou Riyouta, the administrator of the academy dormitory, in order not to be thrown from the academy. In his childhood he witnessed the death of his sister, which led to post-traumatic stress disorder and dissociative identity disorder . Yama Ishimoto has few friends because he avoids contact with other classmates due to his low self-confidence and under the pretext of "not wanting to hurt other students with his personality". He suffers from dropouts due to his trauma and therefore cannot remember activities that happened during the dropout.
Rui Hayata ( 早 田 塁 , Hayata Rui )

  • Rui Hayata is Yama's best friend and they have known each other since early childhood. She was also close friends with Misaki Kazehaya. After Misaki left the city for initially unknown reasons, she took care of Yama, who was then in a bad mental state. When Misaki was introduced as a new exchange student at the Isamu Boarding Academy, she initially avoided any contact with her. She is a happy and caring girl. Because of their close relationship with Yama, both are often referred to as a couple by Jirou Riyouta. Because of her reactions it becomes clear that she feels more for Yama, but vehemently denies this. She is in her sophomore year at the academy. Rui is also a member of the Drama Club, a theater company.
Misaki Kazehaya ( 風 早 美 咲 , Kazehaya Misaki )

  • Misaki Kazehaya is an exchange student at Isamu Imperial Boarding Academy and has known Yama Ishimoto since childhood. She moved with her mother initially unknown reasons off - later it became known that her father suicide committed - to inform without their friends, they at first why a bad relationship with Rui Hayata has. She's very interested in technology and the internet , especially memes . She's also a fan of Gover Mecher , a classmate's internet series. In her free time, she works as a model for the Lotus Model Agency . She is in the same class as Yama Ishimoto.

  • Akira Karube is Rui Hayata's best friend and classmate. She is mostly happy and childlike - she has a picnic blanket that she calls Anette Diana Helenson XIV . Karube is active in the Drama Club together with Rui and brings Yama to join the group as a guest several times. Despite her cheerful nature, she is also caring towards her friends. Her relationship with Yama is chummy, which she shows by calling him “Sarge”, among other things.

In contrast to Yama Ishimoto, she is an ambitious student. She is regularly teased by him because of her origins - she has ancestors from Great Britain - which usually upsets her. She also works as a waitress in a café in Isamu. Elizabeth is very well read and likes to quote well-known authors such as William Shakespeare . She is the daughter of the police chief of Isamu and helps Yama to dismiss the suspicions. In a conversation with Yama it becomes clear that she tried to be friends with him, but that ended with the joint project. It turned out that she received a performance-linked scholarship to be accepted into the academy.
Airi Hiraga ( 平 家 愛 凛 , Hiraga Airi )

  • Airi Hiraga is a student at Isamu Imperial Boarding Academy and is in the same class as Rui Hayata. She is introverted, shy, and silent about other classmates. Several classmates suspect she has kidnapped and murdered the missing students or at least had something to do with it. She is initially very closed to Yama, but the ice breaks between them after a while. It turns out that she is a talented singer and enjoys playing video games . Like Yama Ishimoto, Hiraga is an assistant to Shigure Enomoto, who is the only one who has close contact with Airi.
Yahiro Ikari ( 錠 彌 彦 , Ikari Yahiro )

  • Yahiro Ikari is a classmate of Yama Ishimoto's with whom he is close friends. He lived with Ishimoto in an apartment at the boarding school for a school year . He is very talented in the field of technology and is the inventor of the Gover Mecher video series . He is a happy person and tends to become arrogant or arrogant quickly. In addition, Yahiko shows to be quite naive and easily confused. He takes Yama's sarcastic comments at face value. His parents are senior employees at Lemniscate , a technology company. Since he does not belong to an active club after school, he founded the Happy Club . In this he takes care of disadvantaged students. Because of the club and his contact with the kidnapped students, he has been linked to this case at times.
Masato Kurogane ()

  • Masato Kurogane is one of Yama Ishimoto's best friends alongside Rui and Yahiko. He is very ambitious, athletic, disciplined and impulsive. He is a member of the academy's track team and has tried several times to get Yama to join it. He sees Yama as a rival , albeit on a friendly basis, which he shows several times by challenging various competitions - such as the “fight and the last chicken leg from GFC ” or calling a karaoke competition.
Jirou Riyouta ()

  • Jirou Riyouta is the dorm manager of the Isamu Imperial Boarding Academy and has all the information about the presence and absence of the boarding students. He is also responsible for looking after disadvantaged and behavioral students. That is why he is in regular contact with Yama. Riyouta has a carefree but also cynical character. He is not a fan of modern devices, but prefers old-fashioned models, such as Aikon cell phones . Jirou Riyouta can put himself in the shoes of his supervised students.
Natsuki Tanaka ( 田中 夏 樹 , Tanaka Natsuki )

  • Natsuki Tanaka is a student at Isamu Imperial Boarding Academy and a good friend of Elizabeth. She is one of the few people who knows about her part-time job as a waitress. She has a friendly but bossy character. She is also Shigure's informant , who sends her clues in return for a small favor. Tanaka is the only person able to keep Shigure on a "short leash" in this regard.
Shigure Enomoto ( 朴 本 時 雨 , Enomoto Shigure )

  • Shigure Enomoto is a private detective investigating the kidnapped and murdered students at the Isamu Imperial Boarding Academy. She is eloquent, analyzing, criticizing and sometimes harsh in dealing with her assistants. Shigure has a large vocabulary and likes to use it to form complex sentences. She knows several psychological tricks to get people the information she needs. She hires Yama as an assistant to be able to collect further clues in the academy. She seems to have low morals because she hires Ishimoto, who is still a teenager, and sends him to Distric 6 , a dangerous part of Isamu, at night to test his skills.

publication

The first demo version of Lucid9: Inciting Incident was released on September 30, 2014, before a second game demo followed on April 7, 2015. The finished game was finally released on April 14, 2016 for Mac OS , Linux and Windows . The game is available as a free download on Steam and Itch.io.

It is planned that the game will receive several patches in the course of 2017, including voice actors to give the characters a voice.
