Ferdinand Karl Christian Freiherr von Dorbenck (born January 31, 1791 Stuttgart , † March 23, 1867 Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Ferdinand was a member of Wuerttemberg branch of the noble family of Dobeneck . His parents were the Württemberg captain Rudolf von Dorbenck (1748–1797) and Caroline Ernestine, b. von Rieben (1758–1844). The Bavarian consistorial director Karl Freiherr von Dorbenck (1796-1865), on Brandstein and Schlegel, was his younger brother.

Career

Dobenck began his career in the Prussian army in 1804 as a flag junior in the cuirassier regiment "von Quitzow" (No. 6) and in 1806 advanced to cornet . He fought in the Fourth Coalition War in the Battle of Auerstedt and in the battles near Boitzenburg and Prenzlau. As a result of the surrender, he was initially inactive. In 1813 he was in Russian service as a second lieutenant and in the same year he moved to the Russian-German Legion as a staff officer . He took part in the Wars of Liberation , in particular the blockade of Rendsburg, the battles near Ligny , Belle Alliance , and battles near Wriezen, Berlin, Boitzenburg, St. Dizier , Wavre and Namur, and rose to Rittmeister in 1814 . In 1816 Dobenck returned to the 8th Uhlan Regiment, where he became squadron chief in 1818 and rose to major in 1832 .
