Karl August von Griesheim (born July 15, 1799 in Pöthen , † February 10, 1878 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian general of the cavalry .

Karl was a son of the same name Karl von Griesheim (1756–1815) and his wife Henriette, née Winkler von Dölitz (1766–1849). His father was the owner of Netzschkau , Pöthen, Kleinzschocher and Obertau.

Military career

Griesheim joined the 3rd Hussar Regiment of the Prussian Army on July 1, 1815 and was promoted to second lieutenant by the end of January 1820 . For a year he was then assigned to the teaching squadron and from 1827 acted as a regimental adjutant. This was followed by a command as adjutant of the 4th Cavalry Brigade in Stargard in August 1833 . With the promotion to prime lieutenant Griesheim was released from this command. By the beginning of May 1840 he was promoted to Rittmeister and squadron chief . As a major , Griesheim was given command of the 3rd Hussar Regiment on February 5, 1853, and in this position was promoted to lieutenant colonel at the end of March 1853 . On April 24, 1854 he gave up his association and was appointed commander of the Guard Dragoons Regiment . Promoted to colonel in mid-July 1855 , he was employed as commander of the 5th Cavalry Brigade in Frankfurt (Oder) from April 4 to March 17, 1858, and then Griesheim commanded the 1st Guard Cavalry Brigade in Potsdam. He became major general on November 22, 1858 and took over the 2nd Guard Cavalry Brigade in Berlin in mid-November 1859 . At the end of 1860, Griesheim submitted his resignation , which was turned down in January 1861. He remained at his post as brigade commander and received the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit from Saint Michael in December 1861 . At the same time, from mid-May 1862, Griesheim was also commissioned to represent the inspector of the military riding school. In late summer of the same year Griesheim took part in the exercises of the guard cavalry under General von Mutius . On January 29, 1863 he was promoted to lieutenant general in Königsberg and commander of the 1st division . To restore his health, Griesheim took a vacation to Pomerania in October 1865 . Since there was no improvement, he was put up for disposal on December 7, 1865 with the statutory pension .

For the duration of the mobilization on the occasion of the war against Austria , Griesheim was Commanding General of the Deputy General Command of III. Army Corps in Berlin. From May 17, 1866, he was also given supreme command of all parts of the Guard Corps that remained in his corps area . On January 3, 1867, King Wilhelm I gave him the character of General of the Cavalry. For the duration of the war against France , Griesheim returned to his last employment as commanding general in 1870/71. On July 30, 1871, the emperor honored his longstanding services by awarding him the Order of the Crown, 1st Class with the enamel ribbon of the Order of the Red Eagle with oak leaves.

He was master of Zetzin .

Griesheim had married Rosalie von Knebel-Döberitz (1814-1881) on October 1, 1834 in Friedrichsdorf . The following children were born from the marriage:
