Leopold Christian von Woedtke (born April 30, 1792 in Woedtke , Greifenberg district , † September 29, 1872 in Koblenz ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Leopold was a son of the Prussian Rittmeister a. D. and Herr auf Woedtke Karl Max Wilhelm von Woedtke († 1811) and his wife Christiane Sophie, born von Versen (1757–1822) from the Brutzlaff family . The Prussian major general Georg Eggert von Woedtke was his grandfather.

Military career

Woedtke joined the cuirassier regiment "von Wagenfeld" of the Prussian army in 1800 as an Estandartenjunker . In the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the battles near Auerstedt , Preussisch Eylau and Friedland . After the Peace of Tilsit he was promoted to secondary lieutenant at the beginning of December 1807 and joined Prince Wilhelm's Dragoon Brigade. Woedtke left the service on May 9, 1810 and retired to the family estate.

On August 4, 1813, he returned to the army and was employed in the 5th Hussar Regiment . During the Wars of Liberation Woedtke was badly wounded in the Battle of Dennewitz and was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class, which he did not receive until May 31, 1814 in Paris . He was also in the battles of Thiessen, Baruth and Hoogstraaten and was wounded again at Namur . During that time he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on January 29, 1815 and transferred to the newly formed 9th Hussar Regiment on March 29, 1815 .

After the war he became captain and squadron chief on January 11, 1818 and major on January 14, 1833 . In 1841 Woedtke received the Cross of the Legion of Honor . He was promoted to lieutenant colonel on April 7, 1842, initially with the command of the 4th Dragoon Regiment and on September 12, 1842, Woedtke was appointed regiment commander. In this position he was promoted to colonel on March 22, 1845 and two years later he received the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with a bow. From April 11, 1848 to July 7, 1848 Woedtke was the commander of the 7th Hussar Regiment . He then took his leave , giving him the character of major general with pension . He died in Koblenz on September 29, 1872.

Woedtke married Lucie Reiff († 1835) in Koblenz on February 10, 1821. The couple would have several children:
