Lucien Aubey (born May 24, 1984 in Brazzaville ) is a former Congolese - French football player .

Career

Youth (until 2001)

Aubey was born in his native Republic of the Congo, but came to France at the age of two. He grew up in the city of Mantes-la-Jolie near the capital Paris and started playing football in the neighboring Rosny-sur-Seine with a small club. In 1997 he moved to the youth department of Paris FC and one year later, at the age of 14, he was accepted into the youth performance center of the first division relegated AS Cannes . In 2001 he accepted a contract offer from Toulouse FC, who had been relegated to the third division .

Years at FC Toulouse (2001-2007)

When the 17-year-old arrived in Toulouse, coach Erick Mombaerts praised his physical qualities such as speed and tackle strength and also noted that the young player had technical and play deficits to work through. Initially he didn't play a big role in the first team, but was on the field in some matches and thus had a share in the promotion to the second division in 2002. For Aubey, who was suitable for both the left and the central defender role, this brought his first year in professional football with himself. He established himself in this as a regular player and was allowed to celebrate the second rise in a row in May 2003.

On August 2, 2003, at the age of 19, he made his first division debut when he was on the pitch in a 1-1 draw against Racing Strasbourg . In the relegation battle he maintained his regular place and was able to save himself with his teammates on the last day of the 2003/04 season from the threatened return to the second highest division. The following years were similar, as he was still part of the first team and had to face the relegation battle. He was also set under the coach Élie Baup, who was brought in in 2006 , where he played mainly in the center of the defensive and was occasionally called up on the left. At the end of the first half of the 2006/07 season, he was injured in an encounter against RC Lens and had to take a break for months as a result. Only in a 3-1 win against Girondins Bordeaux in the last game of the season he was back on the field and witnessed how Toulouse qualified third in the table for participation in the Champions League. He himself did not benefit from it, as his time at the club from southern France ended for him after six years.

Stations in different countries (2007-2013)

Several clubs showed interest in Aubey in the summer of 2007 and he was ultimately signed by first division rivals RC Lens . A transfer fee was due for this, which, depending on the source, was two or even three and a half million euros. Shortly after the move, he made his debut in European competition when he was eliminated with Lens in the first round of the UEFA Cup against FC Copenhagen from Denmark. Despite the fact that the northern French had transferred a large sum to Toulouse for him, he was not without controversy in the months that followed. Because of this, he was awarded in January 2008 to the English first division club Portsmouth , where he came only very sporadically to missions.

Shortly after he had returned to Lens in the summer of 2008, he was sold from there to the first division competitor Stade Rennes ; the Bretons paid an estimated 1.2 million euros for him. But he also had a difficult time in Rennes, was substituted in his first game after a poor performance and rarely played from the start in the following period. A thigh injury, which he sustained towards the end of the season, made his situation even more difficult. In the following season he was hardly considered, which is why he received approval from Rennes in January 2010 and was able to switch to the Turkish first division club Sivasspor .

In Turkey, Aubey did not find his way back to his previous form either and only made a few games for Sivasspor before returning to France in August 2010 and signing with second division Stade Reims . He did not make the breakthrough in Reims either and even had to live without any appearances in the 2011/12 season. In July 2012 he started the last attempt at a fresh start when he was hired by the Cypriot first division club Olympiakos Nicosia . However, he was not called up once in Nicosia until he left there in January 2013 and ended his career at the age of 28.

National team

After obtaining French citizenship in January 2004, he was also eligible to play in the country where he grew up and started his career. Later in the year he played his first games for the French U-21 team . He then remained a part of the team for some time.

In 2009, Aubey made his debut for the Republic of Congo national team; because he was only in the junior division for France, this was still possible. This was followed by a number of other appointments, until he wore the jersey for the last time on September 4, 2010 in a 2-0 defeat by Sudan. In total, he had made five appearances for the national team.
