Lucius Iulius Vestinus was a Roman knight of the 1st century AD

Vestinus came from Vienne in the province of Gallia Narbonensis . He was friends with the Emperor Claudius , who mentioned him in 48 as a positive example in his inscribed speech about the admission of Gauls to the Roman Senate . Accordingly, Vestinus' sons had already started the senatorial cursus honorum at this point . One of them was the later consul of 65, Marcus Iulius Vestinus Atticus .

Iulius Vestinus held one of the highest offices attainable for knights from 60 to 62 under Claudius' successor Nero as Praefectus Aegypti . After the civil war of the four emperors year , as one of the leading members of the equestrian order, he also enjoyed the trust of the new emperor Vespasian , who entrusted him with the reconstruction of the destroyed capitol temple in 70 . He may be mentioned as a member of the imperial council ( consilium principis ) under Titus . Vestinus owned a brick factory in the Sabinerland .
