Lucius Valerius Messalla Thrasea Priscus
Lucius Valerius Messalla Thrasea Priscus was a Roman politician and senator in the late 2nd century.
Thrasea Priscus' full name was Lucius Valerius Publicola Messal (l) a Helvidius Thrasea Priscus Minicius Natalis . Coming from a patrician family, Thrasea Priscus began his career as a triumvir monetalis , was a Salian and, unusual for a patrician, held a military tribune at the legio II Adiutrix in Lower Pannonia . In this capacity he could have been subordinate to one of the two Quintilians, Sextus Quintilius Condianus or Sextus Quintilius Maximus , who were involved in the conduct of the war in Pannonia at the time.
Even under Marcus Aurelius and Commodus , he became treasurer . As the next step in his career, however, an adlectio inter praetorios (inclusion in the praetor class ) and the function of sevir equitum Romanorum (leader of a squadron of Roman knights ) have been handed down, both apparently under Septimius Severus . Eventually Thrasea Priscus became a full consul in 196 .
At the end of 211/212 - after Geta's death - Thrasea Priscus was executed on the orders of Emperor Caracallas .
