Lucy Hatton started athletics as a child and initially specialized in all-around competitions. Due to an injury, she was forced to concentrate on the hurdles. In 2011 she won titles at national school championships. In 2012 she began studying criminology at the University of Leicester , continuing her sports career. In 2012 she made it to the finals of the British outdoor and indoor championships, establishing herself in the national senior division. In 2015 she won the silver medal at the European Indoor Championships in Prague behind the favorite from Belarus, Alina Talaj . She improved her best time three times to 7.90 s, making her the third fastest athlete from Great Britain behind Tiffany Porter and Jessica Ennis-Hill . In 2016 she also qualified for the European Championships in Amsterdam , but was eliminated there in the first round.
