Ludwig Adolf Petri

Ludwig Adolf Petri (born November 16, 1803 in Lüthorst ; † January 8, 1873 in Hanover ) was a neo-Lutheran theologian.

Life

After the village school he attended the Amelungsborn monastery school , then trained at Loccum monastery and finally studied at the University of Göttingen . Then he became pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover at the Kreuzkirche (Hanover) .

In the middle of the 19th century he had a considerable influence on the Hanoverian clergy. In 1842 he organized the first Hanover Pentecost Conference with Gerhard August Julius Wellhausen (1808–1861) . In 1853, on Reformation Day, together with Rudolf Steinmetz and Friedrich Münchmeyer, he founded the first Lutheran church association, from which the Martin Luther Bund later developed. From 1866 to 1873 Petri was an extraordinary spiritual member of the state consistory in Hanover.
