Ludwig Bartning (architect)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ludwig August Johann Gottlieb Bartning (born August 22, 1799 in Schwerin ; † May 30, 1864 there ) was a German architect and Mecklenburg construction clerk .

Life

Ludwig Bartning was born in 1799 as the son of the Schwerin post office director Peter Christian Bartning. After studying architecture in Göttingen, he returned to Schwerin in 1822 and became a building manager for Carl Heinrich Wünsch in the Grand Ducal Chamber of Schwerin. With the permission of the Grand Duke, he took two years' leave. He used this for a longer training course with Karl Friedrich Schinkel in Berlin and for educational trips to Italy, France and England. As a grand ducal master builder, he was responsible for Schwerin and Wismar from 1826, and in 1832 he was appointed agricultural master builder. In 1841 he was appointed building officer, where he continued to work in road and building construction.

When the Grand Ducal Chaussee Commission was founded in 1857, he was appointed to this commission - now in the rank of senior building councilor (Departementsrath) - together with Chamber Councilor von Bernstorff - the origin of today's road construction offices. Bartning was a sought-after specialist, as his other offices show: head of the Central Building Administration Authority, member of the Chamber and Forestry College, member of the board of directors of Rostock-Neubrandenburger Chaussee, member of the building examination committee. Ludwig Bartning died at the age of 65 from "repeated heart cramps".
