Ludwig Baur (born August 26, 1904 in Freising , † September 8, 1977 in Sendenhorst ) was a German artist and representative of Expressionist church painting .

Life

Baur grew up in Freising and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . He then worked in the preservation of monuments , especially as a restorer . Ludwig Baur took his first restoration orders to Northern Germany , so that he finally moved to Telgte in 1936 .

Baur created fittings for around 200 church buildings, mainly in the Rhine-Ruhr area . He mainly made windows, mosaics, sgraffiti and frescoes , but also ways of the cross , altars and sacred implements . Baur was involved in the reconstruction of Hildesheim Cathedral , where he designed the interior in the 1950s. On Wetzlar Cathedral he also designed as part of a reconstruction the choir windows in the years 1958/1959. He created nine stained glass windows from 1958 to 1964 in the St. Lambertus Church in Düsseldorf . He designed a mosaic picture for the Dormition Abbey on Mount Zion in Jerusalem . Between 1961 and 1965 Baur created the altarpiece, pebble stone mosaics and church windows for the parish church of St. Hildegard in Eibingen .
