Ludwig Fabian
Ludwig Fabian (born August 3, 1900 in Brennberg , Ödenburg county ; died December 18, 1942 in Vienna ) was an Austrian miner and resistance fighter against the Nazi regime . He was sentenced to death by the People's Court and beheaded.
Life
Fabian was a miner and from 1931 worked in the coal mine in a part of today's Mariasdorf . He joined the KPÖ in 1939 and was arrested on September 11, 1941. On August 12, 1942, he - together with Franz Glötzl , Alois Pelzmann and Anton Roth - was tried before the People's Court in Graz . The sentence for all four of the defendants was the death penalty and permanent loss of civil rights. The reason given is preparation for high treason .
“The defendant Fabian was recruited into the communist party in 1939 by the well-known functionary Johann Graf from Mariasdorf. [...] As the head of the cell in the coal mine, Fabian took part at least once in a meeting of senior officials in Pinkafeld. [...] In addition, the defendants Telze and Fabian deliberately placed themselves at the service of communist leaflet propaganda. "
The execution of all four defendants took place on December 18, 1942 in the Regional Court of Vienna by guillotine . The senior realm attorney at the People's Court ordered the execution of the four resistance fighters to be announced by means of a public poster. Franz Glötzl's name is misspelled on it, the first L.
Commemoration
Fabian's name can be found on the plaque in the former execution room of the Vienna Regional Court . He is buried in the shaft graves of group 40 (row 31 / grave 108) of the Vienna Central Cemetery .
