Ludwig Foohs

Ludwig Foohs (born May 9, 1854 , † June 7, 1925 ) was a German rentier from Dahn , who was primarily committed to the construction of the Wieslauterbahn , which opened in 1911 . For this reason he was made an honorary citizen of Dahn.

Life

From 1883 Foohs was head of the rent office in Dahn. In the 1890s, the efforts to build a railway line through the Palatinate part of the Wasgau via Dahn , which had faltered in the 1870s , revived. Foohs became a member of the relevant railway committee. There he was primarily responsible for correspondence. Immediately after its establishment, he contacted the management of the Palatinate Railways . Since a route in east-west direction had no realistic chance of success, Foohs advocated the construction of a branch line. However, since parts of the population in the region were against a rail connection, Foohs endeavored to convey the advantages of this means of transport in events. He finally managed to convince the mayors. The pastors from Dahn and Niederschlettenbach also supported him.

From November 26, 1899, he was vice chairman of the committee. In the same timeframe, he wrote a petition that was submitted to the Bavarian ministries a short time later. Foohs managed to convince Jakob von Lavale , the director of the Palatinate Railways, with regard to the railway project, after the state parliament members from the area had already pleaded for a corresponding railway construction.

Foohs was very popular locally; on December 1, 1912, one year after the opening of the "Wieslauterbahn" line running from Hinterweidenthal via Dahn to Bundenthal-Rumbach, he was granted honorary citizenship. With this, the community honored his commitment to the construction of the railway line. He is one of a total of two honorary citizens of the city of Dahn. On the day the corresponding certificate was presented, Foohs donated 100 marks to the poor relief fund.
