Ludwig Friedrich Krauss (born November 5, 1757 in Augsburg , † 1851 ibid) was an Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and theologian.

family

His parents were Marx Friedrich Krauss († January 7, 1772), pastor at the Barfüßerkirche and senior at the Augsburg Ministry of Preachers, and Marie Magdalene, a daughter of pastor Samuel Urlsperger .

On February 6, 1785, he married Marie Karoline Rick († 1838) from the Neuholland colony in Brandenburg. They had ten children, eight of whom survived.

Live and act

Krauss attended the Protestant grammar school from the age of six, the College of St. Anna from the age of twelve and studied in Tübingen and Leipzig from 1776.

In 1780 he returned to his hometown, where he became a catechist at the breeding and workhouse. Two years later he was appointed Pestilentiary, and in 1784 the fourth deacon at the Barefoot Church. In addition, he took over the management of the poor children's home in 1790 as the successor to his brother-in-law Degmair. 1797 changed to the position of a deacon at the church St. Anna , 1805 in the parish office at the church St. Ulrich . In addition, he became a senior at the Augsburg Ministry of Preachers and, after the city was incorporated into the Kingdom of Bavaria, in 1811 school commissioner and in 1813 dean . In 1822 he represented the Lutheran clergy in the Bavarian Chamber of Deputies .

On his 50th anniversary in 1830, Krauss was appointed church councilor and received the Cross of Honor of the Order of Ludwig . He gave up the office of dean, but remained active in the pastoral office until old age.

As early as 1788, Krauss wrote a textbook for catechism instruction on behalf of the Augsburg Ministry of Preachers , which was in use well into the 19th century. The Augsburg hymn book of 1794, which he edited together with Johann Christoph Heckel and to which Krauss contributed some song texts, is also included in the theology of the Enlightenment . Another publication was dedicated to the life of the Augsburg patrician Paul von Stetten , who died in 1808 .
