Ludwig Heinrich von Bojanus
Ludwig Heinrich von Bojanus (born July 16, 1776 in Bouxwiller , County Hanau-Lichtenberg , Alsace , † April 2, 1827 in Darmstadt ) was a German zoologist .
Life
Bojanus studied at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . He taught as a university professor at the Russian University of Vilnius at the time . In his scientific work he dealt with aurochs , snakes and turtles and wrote the work Anatome Testudinis Europaeae . In the area of the organs of the molluscs , the organ Bojanus was named after him, which has the function of a kidney in molluscs. The specific epithet of the largest known mammal of the Triassic , Lisowicia bojani , was named in his honor.
