Ludwig Klerr

Ludwig Klerr (born June 30, 1826 in Baden , Lower Austria ; † August 7, 1882 in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee ) was an Austrian conductor and composer .

Klerr was the older brother of Johann Baptist Klerr . After his debut at the Stadttheater von Ödenburg , he worked there briefly with his brother Johann Baptist. Later he was hired to Ljubljana and came to Temesvar in 1859 . There he became military bandmaster with Infantry Regiment No. 23 for two years in 1864.

In the autumn of 1866 Klerr went to Vienna and became Kapellmeister at the Theater an der Wien . There he worked for some time a. a. worked with Richard Genée until he was brought to Budapest in 1870 . Between 1875 and 1880, Klerr was the musical director of the Klagenfurt theater. Then he resigned all offices to devote himself only to conducting.

Klerr died five weeks after his 56th birthday on August 7, 1882 in Klagenfurt, where he also found his final resting place.
