Johann Baptist Clergy

Johann Baptist Klerr (born July 15, 1830 in Baden , Lower Austria ; † September 27, 1875 there ) was a Lower Austrian conductor and composer .

Klerr was the younger brother of Ludwig Klerr . In 1848 Klerr got an engagement as a musician at the Schauspielhaus Graz and from there he later went to the Stadttheater Preßburg in the same position . From 1856 he worked as a conductor at the theater in Ödenburg and occasionally worked there with his brother Ludwig.

The next stops were Wiener Neustadt , Baden and after a brief guest performance in Krakow in 1858 , Klerr came under contract in Budapest . In 1862 Klerr was engaged as Kapellmeister at the Carltheater in Vienna and worked there until 1867 a. a. also together with Franz von Suppè .

In 1867 Klerr moved to the Theater an der Wien , also as Kapellmeister . Between 1868 and 1872 and again from 1874 to 1875, Klerr, as musical director, brought together the venues in Baden and Wiener Neustadt.

At the age of 45, Johann Baptist Klerr died in Baden (Lower Austria) and found his final resting place there.
