He then worked in Gauting near Munich: from 1929 initially occupied with mosaics (3 musicians) and wall paintings (Threepenny Opera or Angels making music). From 1948 he created many paintings influenced by Cézanne (especially landscapes), Braque , Matisse , Munch and Modigliani , especially mask and clown pictures ( Basel Fasnacht , self-portrait, 1963, 1965). His landscapes, still lifes and pictures of birds are outstanding.
Beck remained primarily a draftsman throughout his life, mastered numerous graphic techniques and preferred to work with ballpoint pen and sepia . In addition, he created paintings using oil and wax techniques, watercolors and expressive woodcuts . His children's book illustrations (H. von Cube, Das Pferdchenbuch, Munich 1948) as well as poetic decorations with fairy tales, fables and fantastic depictions at artist festivals (1968–1972) also attracted a great deal of attention.
