Ludwig Neubeck (born July 7, 1882 in Schwerin , † August 10, 1933 in Leipzig ) was a German conductor and composer .

Life

Neubeck was the son of a chamber musician. He studied composition with Engelbert Humperdinck at the Prussian Academy of the Arts . In 1904 he became Kapellmeister at the Mecklenburg Court Theater in Schwerin . From 1905 to 1908 he was 1st Kapellmeister in Lucerne . Later he went to Görlitz and Metz . From 1912 to 1915 he worked as the opera director at the United Kiel Theater . Then he was a professor at the conservatory in Kiel. He founded the Kieler Gesangsverein and was choir director there. From 1918 he was director of the Rostock City Theater . In 1925 he became director of the Braunschweig State Theater . In 1928 he received a professorship . In 1929 he became the program manager of the Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk AG . In addition, he wrote several songs and orchestral works. He committed suicide in 1933 in a Leipzig prison. The composer Paul Graener dedicated his concert for piano and orchestra (op. 72), composed in Leipzig, to him.
