Ludwig Penzkofer

Ludwig Penzkofer (born May 28, 1909 in Neuhaus am Inn ; † March 18, 1999 in Passau ) was a German priest, state director of the German Caritas Association and from 1962 to 1989 a member of the Bavarian Senate .

Penzkofer attended elementary school in Obernzell and the humanistic grammar school in Passau, where he also passed his Abitur. He studied theology at the Philosophical-Theological University in Passau , where he was chairman of the student body for a while. In 1933 he was ordained a priest. He worked as a cooperator in Winhöring and Wegscheid . At the Diocesan Charity Association of Passau he was first secretary, then deputy director and from 1945 director. In 1946 he was accepted into the Passau cathedral chapter as cathedral vicar. From 1956 he headed the Eastern Church Aid of the German Caritas Association, from 1973 to 1986 the main agency in Munich of the German Caritas Association . He was also the first chairman of the Bavarian State Caritas Association, a member of the State Advisory Board of the Malteser Aid Service and the State Health Council , head of the Church Tracing Service in the Federal Republic of Germany, advisory member of Commission VI of the German Bishops' Conference and from 1962 to 1989 a member of the Bavarian Senate . In 1960 he was appointed honorary conventual chaplain of the Sovereign Order of Malta, after he had already been Episcopal Spiritual Councilor in 1952 . He was papal honorary prelate and papal secret chamberlain .
