Ludwig Schneegans (born August 21, 1812 in Strasbourg ; † April 1, 1858 there ) was an Alsatian historian and archivist.

Ludwig Schneegans came from a family who immigrated from the Kreuznach area in the 18th century ; his father Valentin Schneegans worked as a lawyer in Strasbourg. He studied law from 1831 at the law faculty of the University of Strasbourg . In addition, he was particularly concerned with the history of his homeland. After graduating, he became a lawyer in Strasbourg and from 1835 to 1837 editor of the Niederrheinischer Couriers . After his hopes for an academic career were dashed, he became a municipal sub-librarian, and in 1843 the city archivist in Strasbourg.

He was married to (Elisabeth) Louise, b. Bartholmé (born June 1, 1814 in Strasbourg, † August 20, 1883 in Munich), who emerged as a singer and song composer in Strasbourg's musical life. Her son was the writer Ludwig Schneegans (1842–1922).
