Ludwig of Comini
Ludwig von Comini , Edler zu Sonnenberg (born June 19, 1812 in Innsbruck , † January 18, 1869 in Bozen-Dorf ) was an Austrian agronomist , landlord and politician who discovered the tube fungus Oidium Tuckeri , which causes grape rot ( powdery mildew ) , applies. life and work
Comini's ancestors came from the Non Valley , his parents were the doctor and writer Michael Ulrich von Comini and Maria geb. Prev. Von Comini attended high school in Innsbruck and from 1834 to 1836 the forest academy in Mariabrunn near Vienna . From 1837 to 1851 von Comini worked as a forester in various districts of southern Tyrol . Von Comini married Anna Maria von Tschiderer from Bolzano in Mals in 1840, who bore him six children, a great niece of Bishop Johann Nepomuk von Tschiderer, and in 1849 took over a winery in Bolzano that his wife had inherited. In 1851 von Comini retired and from then on devoted himself to the 9620 fathoms (about 3.46 hectares) large winery in Bozen-Dorf and in Bozner Boden. In 1851 von Comini discovered that his winery was infested with powdery mildew. And immediately began to experiment with antidotes, from 1853 he tried to combat powdery mildew with sulfur. After being convinced of its effectiveness, von Comini began to advertise his method of treating powdery mildew with writings that appeared in German and Italian, which earned him the nickname sulfur apostle .
In 1861 Comini was elected from the aristocratic landowners in the first elected state parliaments of the Kronland Tyrol and joined the liberal party . Von Comini remained a member of the state parliament until 1867 and died in 1869 at his Kallegrube residence in Bozen-Dorf.
