The Lugano-Tesserete-Bahn , abbreviated LT , Italian Ferrovia Lugano – Tesserete , officially Ferrovia per la tramvia elettrica Lugano – Tesserete , originally Società per la tramvia elettrica Lugano – Tesserete , was next to the Lugano-Cadro-Dino-Bahn (LCD) and still existing Lugano-Ponte-Tresa-Bahn (FLP) one of originally three meter- gauge narrow - gauge railways starting from Lugano . It was opened in 1909 and electrified from the start; it was discontinued in 1967.

Lugano – Tesserete railway line

The starting point for the train to Tesserete was its own station building on the edge of the Lugano station square. The Lugano-Ponte-Tresa railway and a funicular railway as a direct connection to the city center still have their starting point here at the Gotthard line station or in the immediate vicinity. Another funicular and the Lugano tram had their starting point .

On the way from Lugano to Tesserete the following stops were served: Massagno, Sassa, Ricordone, Vira, Trevano, Canobbio , Sureggio and Lugaggia. Since the Lugano-Ponte-Tresa Railway had the same gauge, freight and passenger cars were regularly exchanged. This particularly affected the freight cars. Mutual temporary help with motor vehicles also happened again and again, as the same electricity system was also available.

Vehicle fleet

In the course of time, the rolling stock listed was supplemented with a single new vehicle, the C4 15 procured in 1948. The original motor vehicles and passenger cars from 1909 and 1910 were characterized by a lantern roof , which was rather unusual in identical vehicles from the same period in Switzerland.

All other vehicles come from bargain purchases from the Montreux-Berner-Oberland-Bahn (MOB) and the then Solothurn-Zollikofen-Bern-Bahn (SZB), formerly the Electric Narrow Gauge Railway Solothurn – Bern (ESB), today Regionalverkehr Bern – Solothurn (RBS) .

Originally the paint was white with a light blue side band. This painting gave way to a light blue / white painting from around 1947.

On the occasion of the abolition of the 3rd car class in 1956, the vehicles were renamed accordingly: ABDe instead of BCFe for motor vehicles, B instead of C for passenger cars.

Location of the vehicles

In connection with the cessation of operations, most vehicles were abandoned around 1969.

Shortly after operations ceased in 1967, the ABDe 4/4 1 railcar was given to Ferrovie autolinee regionali ticinesi (FART), also known as the Centovalli Railway , as a spare parts donor . The B4 15 also came to the FART, which in 1991 passed the passenger car on to the Società subalpina di imprese ferroviarie (SSIF), where it was rebuilt as the A4 130 in 2009 with regard to the interior.

The Lugano-Ponte-Tresa-Bahn took over the K 21 and 22 freight cars and converted them into the Kklm 155 and 156 low side cars in 1968. In 1977 these were canceled.
