Connection of the Simplon line Brig - Milan

The Società subalpina di imprese ferroviarie (SSIF), which is also called Ferrovia Vigezzina , is a local transport company in the Italian province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola , based in Domodossola . The story goes back to 1912.

The part of the international railway line from Domodossola to Locarno, which lies in the Valle Vigezzo on Italian territory, is operated by SSIF . The route connects the Gotthard Railway in Locarno ( Switzerland ) with the Simplon Railway in Domodossola. On the Swiss side, this railway is called the Centovalli Railway and is operated by the Ferrovie autolinee regionali ticinesi (FART).

vehicles

The second-class multiple unit 85, which was marked as ABe, was on July 22, 2008 in front of 89, 812 and 86 in Intragna station

The railway from Locarno to Domodossola was inaugurated in November 1923 as a continuous line with uniform rolling stock. In 1959 four eight-axle articulated multiple units ABe 8/8 were jointly procured. Similar six-axle railcars ABDe 6/6 were initially only procured by FART; The SSIF only came to three six-axle vehicles after a detour via Lugano . In 1992 and 93, twelve ABe 4/6 from Vevey, again ordered together, were delivered.

In 2004, three new three-part panorama multiple units were ordered from Officine Ferroviaire Veronesi and Skoda , but these were changed into four-part compositions during the planning phase. These were delivered in the course of 2007 and normally used in the summer season as three fixed compositions ABe - Be - Rimorchiata - Be; if available, they each run a pair of trains Domodossola – Locarno – Domodossola.

The old ABe 8/8 24 «Vigezzo» is used as a reserve train. The substructure has been revised and the car body has been replaced with a new structure that looks very similar to the new construction vehicles. Since the space available is much smaller than in the new trains, an ABe 4/6 is also used, as it is provided with a different coupling as a forerunner or trailer.

Accidents

On July 13, 1924 , a train with 85 passengers coming from Locarno derailed in Masera . The composition, consisting of a railcar and a passenger car , slipped on a 60 ‰ gradient due to incorrect adjustment of the brakes and fell into a swamp . The accident killed two people.
