The Vigezzo Valley ( it. Valle Vigezzo or Val Vigezzo , lom. Val Vigezz ) is the valley of the Melezzo Occidentale river in the Italian province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (VB), Piedmont region . The Melezzo Orientale rises a little northeast of the Melezzo Occidentale and initially flows south parallel to the latter. In the high valley of Santa Maria Maggiore , the two mountain streams turn in opposite directions. The Melezzo Orientale flows east into Switzerland, where its valley is called Centovalli and he himself is called Melezza . The highest point of the valley is the 2466 m slm high Pizzo la Scheggia .
In the Valle Vigezzo, east of Santa Maria Maggiore (on the Melezzo Orientale), is the famous pilgrimage site of Re .
The Valle Vigezzo is crossed by the Società subalpina di imprese ferroviarie (SSIF) Vigezzina , which continues as the Centovalli Railway to Locarno .
