Luigi's Mansion is an action-adventure - video game and one of the launch titles for the Nintendo GameCube . It was released in Japan and North America in 2001 and in Europe in 2002. In this game it is not Mario who plays the main role , but his brother Luigi .

A port to Nintendo 3DS was announced in a Nintendo Direct presentation in March 2018.

action

One day Luigi received a message telling him that he had won a fabulous win. He won a villa and immediately tells his brother Mario about it. The brothers decide to meet at the villa, but due to mysterious circumstances, Luigi gets lost in the forest. After a while he finds the villa, but there is no trace of Mario to be seen. Instead, he is attacked by a ghost who is stopped at the last moment by Professor Imanuel Gidd (known in the game as I. Gidd) using a vacuum cleaner. Luigi tells him about the win and the disappearance of his brother, whereupon he learns that the villa only appeared two days ago. You go to I. Gidd's laboratory, near the villa, where Luigi receives the Schreckweg 08/16, which can be used to suck up ghosts, and the Gameboy Horror, which serves as a test device, Buu-Huu radar and cell phone. Luigi takes it to the villa to find his brother.

Game mechanics

During the game, Luigi is equipped with the Schreckweg 08/16, a vacuum cleaner with which he can suck up ghosts. Since ghosts fear the light, he also carries a flashlight with him. It is Luigi's job to collect keys in order to advance in the villa. He receives these from defeated painting ghosts or hidden places. At the end of a section he meets a boss. In section 1 the sweet baby Louis, in section 2 the lightning-flinging Mr. Finsterling, in section 3 a 15-man pack of Buu-Huus and in section 4 King Buu-Huu and Bowser.

Actions

The torch of the Schreckweg 08/16 can be switched off with the push of a button. When a ghost appears, it freezes temporarily. If his heart is shown, Luigi can suck him in. Since the ghost tries to flee immediately, the directional key must point in the opposite direction. As the mind is sucked in, its energy is displayed. If it reaches zero, it is caught. The more energy a mind has, the harder it is to capture. With Schreckweg 08/16, Luigi can (and should) vacuum certain objects and cupboards. There is a high probability that money will come out that it can soak up. The more riches Luigi collects, the bigger the villa he will get in the end. A fire, a water and an ice coin can be collected in the game, so that Luigi can also use elemental attacks. This is necessary because some ghosts only react to certain attacks. In this game, Luigi cannot jump. If the button that is normally needed for a jump is pressed, he only calls out to Mario.

Painting ghosts

If Luigi defeats one of the painting ghosts, they disappear back into their paintings and Luigi receives a reward. When fighting them, they lose pearls. The number of pearls picked up determines the value of the frame they will receive in the gallery.

According to the Guinness World Records Gamer Edition 2008 , Luigi's Mansio n is NGC's fifth best-selling game with 3.3 million copies.

Luigi's Mansion received mostly positive reviews and is therefore with Metacritic on an average score of 78 out of 100 points.
