Luigi Dadda

Luigi Dadda (born April 29, 1923 in Lodi , Italy ; † October 26, 2012 in Milan ) was an Italian computer pioneer and from 1972 to 1984 rector of the Polytechnic University of Milan with work in the field of technical informatics . The Dadda multiplier used in digital technology is named after him.

Dadda first studied electrical engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan and graduated with a thesis on wireless signal transmission between the cities of Turin and Trieste in 1947. This was followed, with financial support from the National Science Foundation , in 1953, among other things, study visits at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and work with analog computers . In 1960 he became a full professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan, and in 1962 chairman of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. He was also a founding member of the Associazione Italiana per l'Informatica ed il Calcolo Automatico (AICA), of which he was chairman from 1967 to 1970. Between 1980 and 1982 he was Chairman of the Science and Technology Commission under the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers .
