Luigi De Marchi (director)

Luigi Latini De Marchi (born February 22, 1927 in Treviso , † July 23, 2020 in Scafati ) was an Italian film director , screenwriter and painter .

Life

In the course of his film career, which lasted from 1951 to 1976, De Marchi directed a number of films after starting out as a film and costume designer, although these did not leave a lasting impression. He also worked in Spain and under various pseudonyms such as "Louis Mané", "Luigi Demar" and "John McWarriol". He always wrote the books for his films, often after his own treatment, and took on other functions; occasionally he worked as a costume designer.

His 1964 adventure film Indios a Nord Ovest was based on his own novel "Odissea verde". De Marchi, who had lived alternately in Italy and Morocco since 1962, represented the “Morocco Movie Group” there.

De Marchi had been known as a painter since September 1953, when he had his first exhibition in Bologna . In 1988 he was commissioned to paint a portrait of the Moroccan ruler Hassan II .
