Luigi Pallotti

Luigi Pallotti (born March 30, 1829 , Albano Laziale , Latium , † July 31, 1890 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal .

Life

Pallotti was a nephew of the order's founder, Vincenzo Pallotti . He was born on March 30, 1829 in Albano Laziale and received his education at the Collegio Romano . He then was initially secretary to Cardinal Karl August von Reisach and took on various diplomatic missions, including to Spain in 1857 . He later served as secretary of the Congregation for Catholic Education (1877-1880) and was prefect of studies of the Pontifical Roman Seminary (1879-1880) before he was appointed protonotary .

In the consistory of May 23, 1887 he was by Pope Leo XIII. appointed cardinal deacon and was assigned the title deaconry Santa Maria ad Martyres . The title remained vacant until 1901.

Heart disease led to his death on July 31, 1890. He was buried in the Chapel of the Pallottines on Campo Verano .
