Luigi Trombetta
Luigi Cardinal Trombetta (born February 3, 1820 in Civita Lavinia , † January 17, 1900 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal to the Curia .
Life
In March 1844 he was ordained a priest . He received his doctorate as Doctor iuris utriusque and worked as a lawyer at the Court of Justice of the Roman Rota , received the dignity of canon of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and on May 12, 1897 the title of Apostolic Protonotary participantium . On February 24, 1863 he was appointed Undersecretary of the Congregation of Bishops and Religious , on June 20, 1893, Pro-Secretary, and on December 24, 1896, Secretary of the Congregation.
Pope Leo XIII. took him on June 19, 1899 as a cardinal deacon in the college of cardinals . On June 22nd of the same year he received the title diaconia Sant'Eustachio .
After his death he was laid out in the church of his titular deaconry and buried in the Campo Verano cemetery. He was one of the cardinals without episcopal ordination.
